For the past few years, Bethlehem Central School District has been holding a Literacy Camp. The camp began as an elementary program and has been expanded to include the secondary level, since Literacy should focus K-12. This year the camp is highlighting a 21st century theme, reflecting a major initiative in the District that ties perfectly into digital literacy.
On the August 25th and 27th pages, you will find information on our two nationally recognized keynote presenters; Heidi Hayes Jacobs and Georgia Heard. Literacy Camp will kick-off this summer on August 25 with a full day presentation from Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs based upon her book, Active Literacy. Georgia Heard will present a keynote address for a half day on the 27th and will then offer a workshop in the afternoon on poetry and writing, her expertise as well as the topic of her keynote presentation.
Please register on Timekeeper if you are planning to attend either or both keynote presentations. They will be highly attended, so be sure to sign up soon. Workshops will be offered on August 26th, 27th and 28th. There was a tremendous offering of proposals and the workshops are available to anyone wishing to attend. There is a full camp schedule and specific workshop descriptions are available on the August 26th and August 28th session pages. 8 people will need to be signed up for the workshop for it to take place. Some will fill up fast so, again, sign up as soon as possible.
I would like to thank all of the teachers who offered proposals for Literacy Camp. I think you will see that the offerings are tremendous!
